How Long Will You Have To Wait For Justice? | Colorado Springs Wrongful Death Attorneys

When you’ve had a loved one killed in an accident, it’s perfectly normal to want swift justice.  Having to wait for weeks, months, even years without knowing if the person who caused you so much pain is going to be punished for their crimes can feel like an eternity.  Hopefully, after a long year of uncertainty, the families who had their young daughters killed in an accident last April in Pueblo are one step closer to justice.

Three families were shattered when a drunk driver, barreling through Pueblo at over 100mph, ran through a red light and slammed into a vehicle carrying three young women, who were all killed in the collision.  The drunk driver survived, basically unscathed, but his two passengers in the back of his pickup were ejected on impact and suffered life-threatening injuries.

A judge rules that evidence will be allowed against a man who caused a deadly Pueblo accident. Two vital pieces of evidence have been in question since the fatal accident nearly a year ago.  It wasn’t known whether the driver’s blood alcohol tests or statements to police after the wreck would be admissible in court since his defense claimed he invoked “his rights to counsel before taking any blood test” and spoke before being read his rights.

But now a judge has ruled that both key pieces of evidence are admissible, paving the way for a conviction.  The judge said that ‘implied consent laws’ made the blood tests legal and also believes the man spoke freely and voluntarily to investigators before he was read his rights.

For his crimes the man could face over 200 years worth of felony charges that include “six counts of vehicular homicide, four counts of vehicular assault, two counts of child abuse and endangerment, DUI, reckless driving, and running a red light.”
